Kelly Osbourne Helped an 8-Year-Old Boy Love His Pink Hair – Allure Magazine

Kelly Osbourne recently opened up about her signature lavender hair, and how, despite its badass factor, having pastel-hued hair has attracted a laundry list of haters over the years. Thankfully, she doesn’t really give a flying you-know-what about what anyone thinks of her hair (as she shouldn’t), and has learned to tune out the shade — and help others do the same in the process.

Jacob, an eight-year-old by from Lanesborough, Massachusetts, dyed hair hair pink last October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and recently wanted to re-paint the pink again this summer. “I like doing it for breast cancer awareness, and it’s my favorite color,” he told local news station WNYT-TV.

Big sister of year, Courtney, granted Jacob’s wish, and took him to a salon for a fresh paint job. All was fine until, following the appointment, Jacob and Courtney went to an auto-body shop, where an older man came up to the young boy and scruffed up his hair — without permission, we might add — and proceeded to tell Jacob that pink hair was “for girls.” (?!?!!!!) The man (yes, an adult man) then began calling Jacob “Mary.” (Again: ?!!?!!?!?!?)

Once Courtney took Jacob home later that afternoon, she tried to explain to him that not everyone is understanding (or, you know, a decent human being) of others’ choices. “He told me that it was okay because people say that stuff all the time,” she said. “That broke my heart.” Hearing that, she decided to share their story on Facebook, which caught the attention of local police officer Darren Derby. Derby, who had connections “in the modeling industry,” phoned a friend who connected him with Osbourne.

From there, Osbourne FaceTimed Jacob — who, funny enough, didn’t know who the Fashion Police host was — to chat all things pastel hair, confidence, and more. “Even though everyone doesn’t like [my hair], I like it, so it doesn’t matter,” she told him. She’s right — it doesn’t matter. What does? How badass they both look with pink hair.
