For makeup lovers, Halloween is the most wonderful time of the year.
I stand in awe of the professional makeup artists who create elaborate, head-to-toe looks for Halloween, often using liquid latex and special-effect makeup. The results are amazing.
I have quite the makeup collection, but I don’t have any liquid latex, which makes me willing to bet that you don’t, either.
But Halloween hope is not lost! Here are some last-minute Halloween looks you can do with products you already have in your makeup bag.
Spiderweb eye. This one requires only liquid eyeliner and a steady hand. (Admittedly one may be easier to come by than the other.) Using a long-wearing liner like the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, $22 at Sephora, extend your eyeliner out and up, as though you were drawing on comical fake eyelashes. Connect those vertical lines with short, curved horizontal lines. Bonus points: Use the liner to draw a tiny spider hanging down from the web on one cheek.
Rainbow lip. Depending on the colors you choose, this look lends itself to any number of costumes. You could be a fairy, a unicorn, a My Little Pony. All you need is at least three shades of lipstick (and, if you’d like to get precise, a lip brush, like the e.l.f. Retractable Lip Brush, $3 at Target). Use one color on the outer corners of your lips, a second closer in, and a third in the center. If you’d like, you can use the lip brush to blend the colors. Bonus points: Use all the colors of the rainbow, starting with red on the outer corners and finishing with purple in the center, and call yourself Rainbow Brite.
Mermaid. Use blue, pink, and purple shades to create a smoky eye that would make Ariel proud. (The NYX Brights Ultimate Shadow Palette, $17.99 at Ulta, has just those colors.) The key here is to really blend the colors together (try the e.l.f. Fluffy Eye Blender Brush, $3 at drugstores) to ensure there are no harsh lines. Super bonus points: Stretch a piece of fishnet stocking over your cheeks, and blend those same colors on your cheekbone, When you lift the stocking away, you’ll look like you have scales.
