Whether you like it or not, Kylie Jenner’s empire seems to be unstoppable. In addition to having a new reality series of her own, which premiered Sunday, Jenner is building her beauty biz unlike any other.
Kylie Cosmetics (previously branded as Kylie’s Lip Kit) has reportedly made $420 million in sales in just 18 months, reports WWD. Momager Kris Jenner is said to have provided the paperwork for proof, too. The fashion trade reports that Kylie Cosmetics is on track to become a billion-dollar beauty brand by 2022.
Kylie Jenner is no doubt outpacing her competition and changing the beauty game. For context, WWD notes that Estee Lauder-owned Tom Ford reached revenues of $500 million after a decade and L’Oreal’s Lancome became a billon-dollar brand in 2015 after 80 years.
The beauty mogul first launched her now-famous lip kits in three shades in November 2015, all of which sold out in “30 seconds,” Jenner told The Hollywood Reporter at the time of its release. Since then, she’s expanded her line to include blushes, highlighters (or as she calls them, “Kylighters”) and eyeshadow palettes. She’s also collaborated with sisters Khloe and Kim Kardashian on special lip-kit collections.
Her influence in the beauty world dominated 2016, so much so that online fashion database Polyvore found that searches for the pale shade increased 553 percent and searches for matte lipstick increased 267 percent. Jenner also topped Polyvore’s list of the most-searched-for female fashion icon of the year. According to Forbes, she earned $18 million in 2016, making more than mom Kris ($11.5 million) and sisters Kendall ($17 million), Khloe ($15 million) and Kourtney ($10 million).
Having set up two successful pop-ups in the past — with hundreds of fans lining up and some waiting the night before opening — Jenner is considering brick-and-mortars in the future. “I think it’s time people walk into a store and see Kylie Cosmetics. … I do want that but we haven’t figured out exactly how we’re going to do that and what approach we’re going to take,” she told WWD. Whatever the case may be, it’s clear her fans will follow her every move.
