Beauty Blogger Gets Dragged For Pennywise Makeup Tutorial – Allure Magazine

So, there’s major drama between fans of the new It movie and James Charles, and it’s gonna take a second to catch you on all of it. The short version is that the beauty vlogger didn’t love the movie but did an It-themed makeup tutorial anyway. But with that version, you miss all the messy tweets — so follow along, below.

Basically, the whole thing started when Charles tweeted about how excited he was to see the film. He apparently also tweeted five minutes into the film that the movie was “awful,” which Finn Wolfhard (one of the stars of It) quote-tweeted and roasted him for, saying that it’s “Rule 1” that you stay off your phone in the theater (it is!), but that tweet has been deleted from his timeline.

After watching, Charles tweeted again, saying, “why am I being attacked for saying I didn’t like a movie lmfao y’all need to find something better to do with your lives” and “I didn’t like IT because it seemed as though it was branded to be a horror movie ➡️ I was not scared ➡️ I did not enjoy ➡️ get over it.”

He did qualify his thoughts on the film by saying that while it was well-made, it just didn’t have enough of the horrifying moments he was expecting, which left him disappointed. Fair point. He also posted a video to Twitter addressing the drama. We weren’t aware that a makeup artist/scary clown fandom drama situation needed this many public statements, but we guess it’s good that all bases are getting covered?

That would be enough drama, but it doesn’t stop there. Even though he didn’t like the movie, the vlogger decided to go along with plans to do an It-themed makeup tutorial, seemingly knowing that fans would not be thrilled (though, his estimation of “half the Internet” being angry may have been a little generous).

He revealed the tutorial on his Instagram and YouTube pages yesterday, and the comments were mixed. Some folks were angry, as Charles had predicted, saying things like, “it’s funny how you made fun of the movie when it wasn’t even 10 minutes in but okay,” while others were supportive and understanding, saying, “in the full video, he says ‘even though I wasn’t a huge fan of the movie, pennywise was awesome.’ Or something like that. So he did enjoy some of the movie at least 🤷🏻‍♀️not only that, he’s a makeup artist; every one and their mom is gonna want to be pennywise for Halloween so he’s doing this to give people ideas.”

No matter what you think about the tutorial, Charles right about one thing — he’s certainly racking up the views.
