ELF Cosmetics’ Active Collection Features Makeup You Can Wear to the Gym – Allure Magazine
I don’t always take 8 a.m. workout classes, but when I do, I sweat it out wearing a full face of makeup. (Kinda.) Hear me out: Over the last few years, the industry has seen a major upswing in a lifestyle wear (athleisure, if you will), and with cozy, wear-anywhere-from-Barry’s-to-brunch clothing comes equally accessible beauty. Cosmetic and skin-care brands, like Tarte, Clinique, and M.A.C., have jumped aboard the athleisure beauty train, and now, E.L.F. Cosmetics seems to be following suit.
Aptly named Active, E.l.f.’s seven-piece collection features both cosmetics and skin care, and just like its already price-savvy line, everything in this gym-friendly lineup is $8 and under. (Seriously.) Breaking down the makeup aspect of the collection, there are four color cosmetics products and tools. To start, there’s the Sweat Resistant Mascara & Brow Duo ($6), a dual-ended mascara and brow pencil combo stick, which features a won’t-ever-budge, waterproof black mascara and a clear brow gel to sweep over unruly arches pre- and post-gym sesh.
The Workout Ready Eye Pencil ($4) is a creamy, waterproof gel eyeliner, which glides on lids (or water lines) without making a mess — and lasts long after a workout. The Workout Ready Lip & Cheek Palette ($8), the only palette in the line, has four subtle cream shades made for both the lips and cheeks (think rosy pinks and glossy neutrals). Just a few minutes before my early-morning workout, I tapped on the champagne-colored highlighter on the tops of my cheekbones for a little extra sheen, and I’m happy to report it lasted through the entire sweaty HIIT situation. Rounding out the makeup side of things is the Blend It Out Silicone Sponge Duo ($8), a two-piece blending set made to tap on makeup (or SPF) for an even application.
Now for the good stuff — the skin care. You’ll find three products: the Get Up & Glow Hydration Stick ($8), a cools-on-contact balm made with a cocktail of hydrating and anti-inflammatory ingredients, like shea butter, aloe, and grape. It’s perfect for calming down post-spin redness, if you know what I mean. The Post-Workout Cool Down Mist ($8) is superfine fine mist spiked with water (duh), glycerin (to lock in moisture), and nourishing jojoba. I prefer to douse myself with it pre-moisturizer, like a toner, after class to, again, bring down any remaining redness.
And last, but certainly not least, are the Quick Cooling & Cleansing Body Wipes ($3 for 20) — my personal fave. These full-body cleansing cloths are saturated in hydrating ingredients, like aloe and glycerin, to cleanse and hydrate skin after a sweat fest. Oh, and they smell deliciously sweet, too.
The E.L.F. Active line, which retails for $3 to $8, is available, beginning today, at elfcosmetics.com. Come February, you’ll be able to shop the collection at Walmart stores.
