There’s a Game of Thrones Makeup Tutorial and It’s as Ridiculous … – Allure Magazine
The season premiere of Game of Thrones is coming up Sunday and there’s been a ton of buzz around not only potential spoilers for the upcoming season, but also beauty looks inspired by the cult-favorite television series. We’ve gone over the best hairstyles from the show and even looked on in wonder as GoT inspired a haute couture runway show. Now, the series is serving as inspiration for more than a few laughs in a viral makeup tutorial video over on YouTube.
The video comes to us from makeup artist Jamie Greenberg, whose past famous clients include Rashida Jones and Chelsea Handler. In this particular video, however, she’s working on her own face and doing a Westeros-inspired look that’ll have viewers ready for a Game of Thrones viewing party. In the description for the video, she writes, “The Game of Thrones premiere is almost here!! Which got me thinking, if I were Khaleesi’s makeup artist, what tools would I use to create her look? Check out the antique products I found around my house!” The look she created was hilarious, if not fit for Khaleesi. Here are the deets.
First, she burned some “kindling” to create ash for a smoky eyeshadow. Though she tried to find a feather for an applicator, she had no luck, and used her fingers instead.
Then she used a red powder to get a nice contour, which she wasn’t sure Khaleesi would be into, but she went with it.
Greenberg then said she “found a vagrant in the jail and used his blood for a lip stain,” but that it “didn’t taste good.” Big surprise, there!”
She then said that any contour needs a proper highlight, and she had just the thing to provide the glow. A fish! She told viewers that the fish was already dead and she didn’t kill it just for the occasion, but would be using its scales for highlighter. Who knew?
Next came cherries for cheek stain, which makes absolute sense and is a bit of a palette cleanser from the fish debacle.
Greenberg then gave some great advice, saying, “No matter where you are in time, you have to blend your makeup.” She used a dragon’s egg — err, an avocado – to blend hers.
For her last (and possibly most unsettling) step, Greenberg blended up a chicken bone to make some setting powder. It… didn’t go great.
She said that the entire look should deter anyone from coming near you, which could actually make it a great asset in the world of Game of Thrones.
